Acquisition supports Gardena’s continued growth journey In 2022, Gardena continued to expand its market position and geographical growth journey despite a challenging business climate. The organic sales declined by 7%, currency effects contributed with 6% and the acquisition of Orbit Irrigation with 31%. Gardena was initially able to maintain the sales level achieved during the pandemic in the first half of the year. In the second half-year sales were negatively impacted by destocking activities by retail partners as well as continued challenges in global supply networks, especially for electronic components. Sales of the new Gardena EcoLine product range made largely from post-consumer recycled materials was good during the year. “2022 was a challenging year for Gardena Division, where we failed to deliver on our financial expectations. But strategically, we made important progress. We strengthened our U. S. market and smart watering leadership positions through a successful integration of the recently acquired Orbit Irrigation. And we successfully launched innovative and more sustainable products,” says Pär Åström, President of the Gardena Division. “We are therefore sticking to our long-term growth strategy and planned investments for the future,” Pär Åström adds. This includes the planned expansion of the Heuchlingen site in the district of Heidenheim. In December, the land adjacent to the plant was transferred to the company by the municipality. Archaeological excavations are currently still taking place on the site. Once these are completed the expansion timeline will be finalized. At the end of 2022, the Husqvarna Group employed around 2,370 people in Germany at its sites in Ulm, Heuchlingen, Niederstotzingen and Laichingen, as well as in the field. Around 3,500 employees work for the Gardena Division worldwide. Innovations 2023: Efficient garden watering Gardena has already announced numerous innovations for the coming gardening season. They all have a lower consumption of resources in common. In view of the advancing climate changes, the special focus is on efficient garden watering. The proven Micro-Drip system for efficient drip irrigation for beds and plant rows has been completely revised for easier use and for utilization of Gardena’s competence of making high-quality product from recycled materials. Those are also the key feature of the new EcoLine Garden Hose that has been developed in partnership with Fitt. For lawn irrigation, new sprinklers are being introduced that use innovative nozzles to reduce water consumption. The battery-powered range for the successful Power for All Alliance is expanded with new products for high-rise pruning. Batteries and chargers for these can be used with more than 100 different products of the alliance. A new range of pumps is characterized by low energy consumption and low noise levels during operation. Note: Gardena Division sales in the financial year 2022 amounts to 13,606 million Swedish crowns according to the full-year report of Husqvarna Group.
