Should we collect or mulch cuttings?

There are various methods of mowing a lawn
The Battery Lawnmower HandyMower

Small areas of lawn can quickly be mown using the HandyMower. The mulching blade of this manoeuvrable Battery Lawnmower directly cuts up the grass stalks small enough so that they can be left lying on the lawn surface.

Short text (357 Characters)Plain text

Mowing lawns using a grass catcher represents the clean, classic method. However, above all when mowing large lawn areas, the amount of cuttings collected is so large than it cannot all be put on the compost. In such cases, mulching is a practical alternative. It is not only a time-saving and convenient, but also inexpensive and natural form of lawn care.

Press release (2214 Characters)Plain text

Why do we have to mow lawns?

The lawnmower is without doubt the most important piece of equipment when caring for your lawn. By mowing regularly, grasses are encouraged to produce a lot of side shoots, further leaves and also offshoots. They develop to form a permanently attractive, dense lawn. If they are cut back regularly, lawn weeds don’t stand a chance. And if mown once a week, less lawn thatch is formed.
Depending on the respective region, the first cut is made in spring, in the months of March or April. The mowing season ends again in the autumn months of October /November. Depending on your preferences for mowing, lawn size or lawn type, it is possible to apply different mowing methods and lawnmowers.

Collecting cuttings

Usually, lawnmowers collect the grass cuttings in a grass catcher. This catcher repeatedly has to be emptied so that the discharge channel is not blocked. Clogging can occur quickly, above all in case of damp grass.
However, dry grass can still be mown even if it has grown somewhat longer. This means that the lawn may – depending on the season – also be left to grow for two to six weeks. This would mean a mountain of cuttings, which has to be disposed of. After that, the lawn is clean again, and ideal for playing on. And no-one carries grass cuttings into the house. However, many towns and municipalities charge fees for the disposal of larger quantities of lawn cuttings.

Mowing the lawn made convenient

If you mulch, however, then there is nothing left to dispose of. The grass cuttings simply remain on the lawn. This saves time and is also good for the lawn. A mulch mower namely only cuts off the stalk tips, and simultaneously shreds them finely.
Soil organisms then break down the remaining mulch mass.  And the lawn cuttings go back into the nutrient cycle as natural fertiliser. In summer, this means that the lawn retains more nutrients and moisture. This saves money for fertilisation and irrigation.
The Battery Lawnmower HandyMower operates in a similar way – it possesses a mulch blade for shredding the cuttings in the same way as other mulching methods. Due to its manoeuvrability, it is primarily ideal for small lawn areas.
