In addition to classic schedules, garden owners have the option to include other factors to only start watering when it is really necessary. In this way, water consumption can be optimized and significantly reduced.

Optimization of water consumption

Soil moisture can be measured using the smart sensor. If a watering cycle is planned and the sensor reports that the soil is already sufficiently moist, the pending schedule is skipped. The corresponding threshold is adjustable. Another possibility is the dynamic adjustment of the irrigation times over the changing times of the sunrise and sunset over the course of the season. If desired, this happens automatically based on the location of the garden.

As a further optimization option, the consideration of the local weather forecast can now be activated. If sufficient rainfall is predicted, a planned irrigation schedule can be automatically suspended. If available, this function can also be combined with the measurement of the actual soil moisture using smart Sensor.

The user now has three different options to optimize his garden irrigation, which can be activated individually or in combination with each other. This way the plants get as much water as they need to thrive. At the same time, the garden owner can reduce his water consumption. This is good for the environment and your wallet.

The weather forecast is now included in the June update of the app for the GARDENA smart system. The app is available free of charge for iOS and Android in the respective app stores. There are no costs for the user to use the weather data. Smart Water Control or smart Irrigation Control and smart Gateway are required for automatic control. The use of smart Sensor is optional.
