Compost Urbain wins GARDENA garden award

Compost Urbain prevailed in the final and was chosen by the jury as the winner of this year's GARDENA garden award. This is awarded to innovative entrepreneurs, inventors and founders who have sustainable solutions for the future of the “digital garden” in mind.

“We saw three very interesting applicants in the final, each of whom are in a different phase of their journey and therefore have a different degree of maturity in their business model. But they all presented exciting projects to the jury, so the decision on the placement was very close,” says Pär Åström, President of Gardena, summarizing the final round of the competition.

The winner: Compost Urbain - innovative solution for household composting

For the majority of the jury members, Compost Urbain was able to convince with a high degree of innovation, which particularly appeals to a younger, urban population and represents a real problem solution that has great potential for a successful market launch on a broader basis. The passion with which the founder presented his concept was also convincing.

In second and third place, the other two finalists, were only very close to the winner. Plantura was ranked ahead of Bioblinds.

Second place to Plantura for organic fertilizers and plant protection

Plantura has a mission of offering effective and sustainable products for the home garden. According to its own information, the provider does without unnecessary chemicals and goes its own innovative way with animal-free organic fertilizers, CO2-reduced potting soil and biological plant protection. The business model of the Munich startup is already very well developed. The jury was particularly impressed by the emotional brand management and the consistent involvement of users in all phases of product development as well as the consumer engagement measures. – https://www.plantura.garden 

Green curtains from Bioblinds placed as third winner

Bioblinds as a free, non-profit collective works on free do-it-yourself instruction manuals for top-to-bottom plant curtains which stand for climate action and more urban quality of life. In the activists' vision every facade will be vegetated, and skylines will become green. The jury was particularly impressed by the ambitious vision of greener megacities and the inspirational nature of this idea. – https://thegreenskylineinitiative.com 

“Our doors are always open to all startups. Such an award gives us the chance to support the world of startups and at the same time intensify our contacts in this area,” emphasizes Tobias Schlitzke, Business Development & Venture Manager at Gardena.

For the second time this year, the GARDENA garden award in partnership with koelnmesse and the German trade association for DIY, building and gardening (BHB) honors innovative entrepreneurs, inventors and founders who have sustainable solutions for the future of the “digital garden” in mind.

As a media partner, the trade magazine diy will be there again this year as well as, for the first time, "Schöner Wohnen", the leading German living magazine.The award is endowed with a total of 10,000 euros and prizes in kind. All three finalists will have their own stand at the spoga + gafa trade fair in May 2021. In addition, the German Garden Industry Association (IVG) offers the winners the opportunity to present themselves to a specialist audience at the IVG Garden Market Forum. The first-placed winner will also be presented in detail in the trade magazine diy, issue 11/2020.
