"The first round last year impressively demonstrated how many innovative ideas there are for all things gardening. And we are convinced that there are many more of them. With the GARDENA garden award, we want to give them a platform and this time we are focusing on sustainable solutions," says Pär Åström, President of Gardena, explaining the sponsor's motivation behind the award.

This time, too, they were looking for sustainable solutions for the garden of the future. Innovators were invited to submit their ideas and business models for the following subject areas: smart gardening, irrigation technology, cutting technology, urban gardening, e-commerce and services in the garden environment, mobile apps in the garden environment and garden technology in general.

The Gardena jury initially selected three candidates as finalists with regard to the degree of innovation and sustainability. In the final round, those can then present themselves and their concepts to the jury. After the jury consultations, the placements will be announced immediately and the winner will be presented.

Three startup teams are nominated for the finals

The following three founding teams were nominated for the final round (in alphabetical order):

Bioblinds (Germany) as a free, non-profit collective works on free do-it-yourself instruction manuals for top-to-bottom plant curtains which stand for climate action and more urban quality of life. In the activists' vision every facade will be vegetated, and skylines will become green. –  https://thegreenskylineinitiative.com

Compost Urbain (France) takes on the issue of organic waste in the household and as a solution offers compact silo composters for the home. Composting can reduce household waste and at the same time create living soil as valuable organic matter. – https://composturbain.com

The award is endowed with a total of 10,000 euros and prizes in kind. In addition, the German Garden Industry Association (IVG) offers the winners the opportunity to present themselves to a specialist audience at the IVG Garden Market Forum. The first-placed winner will also be presented in detail in the trade magazine diy, issue 11/2020.
