The GARDENA garden award 2022 is again looking for innovative solutions and sustainable ideas for the garden of the future. Selected as finalists were Bird Buddy Inc (USA), HIIVE UG (Germany), Respira (Canada), and The Plant Box GmbH (Germany). Theycan now present themselves and their concepts to the jury at the spoga+gafa trade fair in Cologne on June 19, 2022.

This year, the GARDENA garden award for innovative entrepreneurs, inventors and founders is entering another round. For the fourth time now, creative ideas for the garden of the future are being sought.

The spoga+gafa trade fair, the German DIY trade trade association (BHB), the trade magazine diy and the magazine “Schöner Wohnen” are again participating as partners in the competition this year. The German Garden Industry Association (IVG) and the Husqvarna Group are also represented on the expert jury.

“Gardens, designed and cared for with passion by their owners, are not only places for creativity and relaxation. They also make an important contribution to biodiversity and have a positive influence on the microclimate in the cities and thus on sustainability as a whole. The previous competitions have shown us that clever entrepreneurs still have many good ideas. We want to offer them a platform with this award,” Pär Åström, President of Gardena, explains.

Four founding teams have been nominated for the final

The Gardena jury initially selected four candidates as finalists with regard to the degree of innovation and sustainability. The following four founding teams were nominated for the final round (in alphabetical order):

Bird Buddy Inc (USA) – Bird Buddy has created the world’s first smart bird feeder with AI based species recognition, live stream + photos curated in an app with notifications of joy. – https://mybirdbuddy.com

HIIVE UG (Germany) – HIIVE provides honey bees with a better, species-appropriate home in which the natural behavior of Apis mellifera is supported. – https://www.hiive.eu

Respira (Canada) – The company's mission is to improve the health of indoor environments through a connection to nature in the form of urban gardening and improved indoor air quality. – https://www.respira.ca

The Plant Box GmbH (Germany) – The Plant Box revolutionizes the way to a year-round planted balcony with ready arranged creative creations & a box made from recycled vegetable oils. – https://www.theplantbox.de

The finalists can now present themselves and their concepts to the jury at the spoga+gafa trade fair in Cologne on June 19, 2022. After consulting the jury, the placements will be announced immediately and the winner will be chosen.

The prize is endowed with a total of 10,000 euros as well as prizes in kind, including a special prize, donated by spoga+gafa trade fair, for the most sustainable idea. In addition, the German Garden Industry Association (IVG) offers the winners the opportunity to present themselves to the specialist audience as part of the IVG Garden Market Forum. The first-placed winner will also be presented in detail in the trade magazine diy.
