Global leader in watering solutions for private gardensWith the acquisition of Orbit Irrigation in the fourth quarter of last year, Gardena has become the world's leading supplier of watering solutions for private gardens and has also strengthened its position in North America. The new business unit within the Gardena Division already contributed two percent to total sales in the short period. Excluding this contribution, Gardena was able to grow by 14 percent compared to the previous year’s sales.
“Gardena has been able to develop positively for yet another year in a row and continues its growth path despite the difficult conditions caused by the pandemic,” states Pär Åström.
The gardening company was once again able to grow in all its product groups and in all relevant sales markets. The Gardena Division now accounts for 22 percent of Husqvarna Group’s total sales in the past full year.
Big investment plansIn November, Gardena had specified its expansion plans for its existing Heuchlingen plant, located approximately 40 kilometers north of Ulm. There, the company wants to position itself for the growing demand of the coming years with an integrated production and logistics site.
The plan is to expand the total area of the site from around 48,000 square meters at present to 153,000 square meters in the future. Provided all the necessary permits are granted, construction work could start as early as the beginning of 2023. With around 300 employees at present, Gardena is already the largest employer in Heuchlingen and aims to employ up to 900 people at the site in the future.
The Gardena Division invests continuously in all its locations. This includes the plant in Vrbno pod Pradědem in the Czech Republic, where the production of robotic mowers has been further expanded. In addition, a further service center for international customer orders has been established here to expand capacity.
Gardena Division currently employs around 3,600 employees worldwide.
