If you start thinking about garden planning now, you can turn your garden into a green oasis right at the start of the season.
As soon as there is frost and snow outside, it is the best time to start planning for the next garden season. If you follow a few basic rules, you can turn your garden into a real gem.
When plants take their winter break, it's time to think about what the garden should look like next year. But just getting started is not a good idea. It is better to approach the project in a structured way and that means, first thinking about what kind of garden you want as a hobby gardener: a modern city garden, a natural oasis, a kitchen garden or perhaps even a mixture. In any case, it is important that the garden and the house form a unity.
Afterwards a plan of the property is drawn. Not only the terrace and the garden area should be drawn on the plan, but also the house with windows, doors, lines of sight and paths.
Online tool helps with planningWith
myGarden, Gardena offers a free online tool as well as an App for this stocktaking. The user can draw, plan and creatively realise his garden in a comfortable way. For example, how the sprinkler system is ideally designed or where there is space for an electric power-charge station for a Gardena robotic lawn mower.
To make a garden a feel-good place, a few things need to be considered. For example, the new garden areas should not only fit the shape of the property and house but should also be in the right proportion to them.
Choose materials and plantsAs soon as the surface concept is ready, materials and plants are selected that ultimately give the garden its face. The right mix of these two components plays an important role. Natural gardens need natural materials such as stone and wood. Who prefers a modern look will probably choose cool concrete or fine stone. However, wood can also be used here wonderfully as a supplementary material.
When choosing plants, the garden owner should choose plants that give joy throughout the year. The 3-2-1 rule in the construction of a patch helps to ensure that each plant can show its best side: Shrubs and bushes with a height of up to two metres are placed at the back. In the middle there are filler plants with up to 80 centimetres, for example medium-high grasses, garden sage and coneflower. And in the first row, ground-covers like the cranesbill feel particularly at home. But when selecting plants, pay attention not only to seasonality, but also to colour, leaf structure and size as well as the suitable location. Not every plant likes full sun or shade.
The decoration is the conclusion of a successful planning. It should rather hold back so that the garden can take effect. Here applies, less is more: Large plant troughs that match the surface of the terrace or airy furniture that virtually merges with the surroundings complement the whole.
